The Role of Critical Thinking in Business Essay Example
The Role of Critical Thinking in Business Essay Management could have used critical thinking and adjust the personnel to fill in the position for the missing personnel to cover down on the events. Management ignored the requirement for the events and told his counterpart that they will have to cover down on the event, even though he fell short in analyzing the up-coming situation that required at least four personnel. Although his actions showed that, he did not care and blamed someone else for the shortness of personnel. If management had used reasoning and critical thinking, he could have covered down on the tuition to avoid the situation noticed of his ability to manage personnel. The use of critical thinking and analyzing the situation will give the individual better results to the outcome of any problem that arise. Definition Free will is the power to make choices freely without any constraints or compulsions. Free will is a voluntary decision and an independent choice. It is the capacity to respond in ways that oppose even the strongest influences (Ruggeri, 2012). People possess free will. This is the reason why peoples decisions are unpredictable. Free will helps a person form thoughts. No matter the pressure or force placed on a person, the person will act on his or her own free will when making decisions. Truth is the reality of the matter, as distinguished from what people wish so, believes to be son, or assert to be so (Ruggeri, 2012). Truth is a fact. It does not change, only our knowledge change. Forming thoughts based on truth discards any doubt and places the evidence on the subject. Knowledge is what understood and known to be true. Opinions are %intensely personal (Ruggeri, 2012). It is a personal way to express ones judgment Thoughts formed through opinions are mostly personal perceptions of how they interpret or believe the idea is (Ruggeri, 2012). Hindrances The three hindrances to the critical think process are the mine-is-better hub resistance to change, and conformity. Mine-is-better habit is the habit that hinders thinking through preferring own ideas for no other reasons that the are yours. The concept of handling situations that arise will highlight this tag f mind set. This concept or idea slows down the thought process of the group from excelling. Management normally takes the easy way out, but waits for the situation to fail before he places the right person or adjust his mind set for the best results. Resistance Resistance to change is the tendency to reject new ideas and new way: of seeing or doing without examining them fairly. The normal reason why w reject change in my line of work is the older ways worked and produced go results. A good example is using computers to record and track information UT we try not to understand the process of how Microsoft applications Word to generate faster results. The denial of change slows down growth and progress of technology adapting to society advancements. The best way to overcome resistance is sit back and analyze the situation by using the decision-making process to achieve the best outcome. Conformity Conformity is thinking the way others from the group believe to avoid being different. This process destroys an individuals idea for a person trying to grow. You normally will see situation like this when it involves a superior ND the fear of looking mentally challenged around your leaders and peers. The best counter-act this situation is present facts or evidence that support: your comments. Advertising Messages Red bull drink advertisements, both on radio and in television, involve selling more than just the drink, but wings that enable a person to fly. It taps into TFH human psyche and tries to sell the drink linking it to a higher power, masculinity and energy. Red bull advertisement usually tries to appeal to HTH other senses.

The Topic Can Be Proposed By The Writer Example The Topic Can Be Proposed By The Writer – Assignment Example Darco Transportation v. Elmer Dulen Darco Transportation v. Elmer Dulen Issue: Is Dulen en d to receive workers’ compensation after engaging in sex with his co-driver while driving a tractor-trailer rig across the railroad? Rule Statement: Workers Compensation law is the applicable rule of law in this case. An employee can seek compensation for injuries related to work provided that: (1) the injuries were sustained in the course of duty, and (2) the injuries arise from the employees’ employment (Mallor et al., 2013).Analysis: Workers’ Compensation law, for an employee to be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits the employee must have suffered his or her injuries while in the course of duty and the injuries must have occurred out of the employee’s employment. In the case, Dulen was an employee of Darco Transportation and suffered injuries from accident while in the course of duty, ferrying goods San Francisco. Dulen involved in the accident afte r malfunctioning of the railroad’s signal arm, leading to the track smashing by train, which killed Dulen’s co-driver. Clearly, the injuries suffered by Dulen were work related. Even though Dulen was found to engage in negligent act by having sex with his co-driver while on the road, he was maintaining his driver seat, thus did not abandon his work or responsibility at the time of the accident. The injury of the complainant was clearly tied to his employment and originated from risk intrinsic to the nature of his work or employment. Therefore, despite the fact that Dulen was engaging in inappropriate behavior during the time of accident, he was executing his mandated role as a driver and the cause of his injuries can be tied to the failure of the railroad protective arms.Conclusion: Dulen’s injuries were on-the-job injuries, thus he deserved workers’ compensation. The court ruled in Dulen’s favor because the injuries were established to be work-rel ated.ReferenceMallor, J. P., Bowers, L.T. and Barnes, A.J. (2013). Euthanasia Should Be Allowed Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Euthanasia Should Be Allowed - Essay Example Euthanasia is applicable for â€Å"terminally ill†patients, who have no scope of recovery and the rest of their life is bound to be full of suffering. However, in some conditions like comatose where there is a possibility of recovery, the decision to terminate life is not straight forward. So, it is argued, since no one can be sure of the impossibility of recovery, it would be unethical to kill the patient. Another argument put forward is the misuse of the concept for financial consideration. As the expenses incurred to keep alive a seriously ill person is very high, some may decide to employ euthanasia so as to cut costs. It may sound very base and inhumane, but not everyone can afford the high cost of advanced treatment. Some say that euthanasia is like acting against the will of the person. Since nobody likes to die and the seriously ill are not in a condition to decide their future, it would be acting against the patients’ will. Others believe that each and every human life is sacred and has to be preserved no matter what. It may have theological connotations; yet, many people do take their religious beliefs seriously. The sentiments and beliefs of people cannot simply be shrugged aside for scientific and practical reasons. Equally sound points could be raised in favor of euthanasia. The foremost being its utility in putting an end to the intolerable suffering and pain of the affected patient. It hurts the relatives too, to see their loved one undergoing such agony. It is not unusual for the spouse or parent of a suffering patient to opt for euthanasia, for they believe that is the best they could do, both for themselves as well for the patient. There is also legal backing for euthanasia. It is legal in most countries to commit suicide and since euthanasia is similar to suicide, why not? This makes sense as every person has absolute right over his/her own mind and body and can choose to do whatever with it as long as it does not

Gender and Language Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Gender and Language - Essay Example The farmer did get his drink but with an enormous lecture on the benefits of self-help. Is there a meeting point where members of the opposite sex could meet and communicate intelligibly There is the possibility. However, the possibility could come with a heavy rejoinder. The woman may ask for complete modification before seeing the set. The problem does not lie with the woman or the man. The problem is the age-old communication that has different people saying different things but understanding little. The man hardly will say anything. The woman has said all she wanted and also ensured that the cake remain with her. The husband, a listless individual, said little or nothing and scarcely knew the cake that existed. The problem is not with the man who does not talk or the wife who has not only told her version but included her husband's as well. The problem is in understanding the genders. Man is made to say something or nothing. Woman, on the other hand, is made to talk her head off. It does not matter if the man is not listening. Women are primarily different from men. You can have a bunch of women all talking together. You would not know who is talking and who is listening. But the conversation goes ahead in full blast and nobody is tired. This is because women are attuned to each other in such a way that makes listening easier. Women are also more thorough and systematic. ... A woman will dive deep within the ocean to explore the seabed. The man will hardly scour the surface if he finds nothing of value in the ocean. Language By and large, women are soft spoken and observant. Comparatively, men are brash and may not even know what they are talking about. Consider this: Woman (to her child): Honey, did you have breakfast Child: No mum, not yet. Woman: What would you like to have Scrambled eggs or cheese sandwich Child: Cheese sandwich Woman: I will have it ready by the time you finish your bath Now let us have a man talk to the same child. Man: Good morning! Child: Good morning, dad! Man: Have you had breakfast Child: No! The conversation stops. The man knows the breakfast will be served by the child's mother. He does not bother carrying on with the conversation. Now let us go to a more aggressive scenario. This concerns a wife-beater and the victim. The victim is in a more advantageous position because her conscience is clear. Because her conscience is clear she is in better position to think and speak clearly. The wife-beater normally lacks sense and is laden with guilt. The victim has the option to face off. The wife-beater has no such option. In this scenario who is better of Is it the wife-beater or the victim Under the gaze of a third person, the wife is better of. The man will crouch for safety if his actions come under the glare of a third person. Gender and Language If seen in the right perspective, gender and language form fluent, complementary roles between the opposite sexes. It shows the man as the strong and caring personality as against the slender and dependent role of the woman. It is quite natural for man to be strong and supportive and for the woman to be

Soap Operas Essay Example for Free
Soap Operas Essay The following piece of writing is based on the history and background of Soap Operas. Commencing with where, when and why they were started. Who was the target audience. Finishing with the key conventions of the genre giving examples. Soaps first burst on the scene in America in the 1920s to the 1930s. This was when Radio stations sprang up all over the U. S. A. At that time they solely relied on advertising revenue to stay on air. Companies would sponsor whole programmes as well as using short burst adverts during breaks. This practice would also be used by television companies later on when the first Soap Opera was shown on T. V in 1964. This method of advertising has continued to be used to this day by both forms of media. The main target audience for these up and coming radio programmes was identified as being housewives. The reason for this is that back in the 1920s very few women once married, ever went out to work. Instead they were expected to stay at home raise families and look after the house and all the responsibilities that went along with it. One of these responsibilities was shopping. This audience was classed as the ideal one and companies took advantage of this in an attempt to supply household goods such as soap and detergents. Basically, the companies used the radio for commercial and consumer uses. The companies selling the goods needed the radio stations to produce a specific type of programme, which would attract a large amount of listeners from their ideal target audience. This was so that they could get as many housewives as possible to buy their product, enabling them to make vast profits. They succeeded by making the programme a drama serial based on the home and various domestic situations within it. The serials were made to be melodramatic with touches of romance, tragedy and also with a touch of comedy thrown in for good measure. The title Soap Opera came about because of the fact that a Soap company sponsored the programmes. Opera was used because the programmes were very dramatic and larger than life. They became very popular in a short space of time. Two popular radio soap operas in the early years were Ma Perkins and One Man Family. The success continued for quite a while. Then after the war in the 1950s radio soaps lost their appeal. Television had arrived and people turned their attention to this form of media for entertainment and information. As the soaps had been so popular on the radio, it was decided that they should be transferred to the television screen. The first television soap was aired on screen in 1964, the title Peyton Place. The audience yet again was housewives. It became so popular it ran until 1969, which was well beyond its life expectancy. Britains first Soap was on radio which went on air just after the, 2nd World. It was called The Robinsons. However the most famous radio soap in England, which is still on air today is the Archers an every day tale of Farming Folk. It started in 1950 and has been listened to by generations. Reservations by companies about the cost of setting up the first T. V. Soaps were soon allayed because they were very cheap to run. There have been several T. V. Soaps of different genres come and go over time, some more successful than others. Emergency Ward Ten a Medical soap lasted only three years. United, was about a football club, which lasted two years. And, everyone will remember the disastrous Eldorado! This was about the lives of ex-patriots who lived in Spain. This was one of the B. B. Cs shortest run soaps ever. The most famous and longest running soaps are Coronation Street made by Granada television company, Eastenders made by the B. B. C. and Emmerdale which made the transfer from its original early daytime slot to its current 7pm peak viewing slot. Good decision by the Yorkshire T. V Company who makes the soap. There are various key conventions used in the common Soap Opera, for example the very successful Eastenders, Emmerdale, Brooksideand Coronation Street. The first major convention is that there is a continuous storyline. This enables the viewer who regularly watchs the soap to miss a couple of episodes, then, easily rejoin whilst still knowing what is going on. This rule also applies with the characters; there should be a regular cast. One of the old favorites characters in Coronation Street was Ena Sharples who was in The Street for 20 years. The continuous storylines are usually helped to last by having Cliffhangers at the end of every episode. A Cliffhanger is a final moment that leaves the audience in suspense, wondering what will happen next? Current affairs are reflected in many of the Soaps story lines some more controversial than others, for example Brookside (a soap based in Liverpool) showed the first lesbian kiss years ago. But, it took Coronation Street until the year 2003 to show a kiss between two men. In reality The Soaps deal with realist issues. Issues, dealt with on a day- to- day basis by normal people. For example people celebrating the birth of a child, birthday celebrations, marriages even deaths. Other storylines sometime aim specifically at the younger generation by dealing with drugs, alcohol and teenage pregnancies. Also major storylines, which involve climatic events and deal with the aftermath. Spectacular events used are things like shootings, robberies, falls, car or train crashes, these events were added when soaps were transferred to the evening time. Thus pulling in the male viewers at the same time because this added action. Writers of Soaps often create conflicts between characters. A good example of this was between Little Mo and her ex- husband, who used to verbally and physically abuse her. This storyline lasted for several months with lots of cliffhangers and the nation was gripped with its finale and his death in a fire. It was filmed in one small room with just those two characters amongst the flames, screaming and crying at the same time, wondering how it all came to this. After all they had loved each other at one time! Soaps are still the lifeblood of regionally based independent television stations as well as the commercial television stations such as Granada, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire. They need to make profits to stay in business and pay their shareholders. Because after all that is what they are, businesss. So they continue to use advertising breaks during the good quality Soaps to keep the revenue coming in. This does not affect the B. B. C because it is a Public Service Channel and receives their money via the television License. What about the future? Who knows when the bubble might burst? But for now, the viewers, television stations and the companies who advertise are all winners.

Watermelons :: essays research papers
Watermelons Watermelon is truly one of summertime’s sweetest treats. Watermelons are fun to eat and good for you. Watermelon seeds were brought to this country by African slaves. Today there are more than 100 different varieties of watermelons. The flesh may be red, pink, orange, or yellow. There are seedless varieties and super-sweet round ones that fit nicely into the refrigerator. Watermelon is a tender, warm-season vegetable. Watermelons can be grown in all parts of the country, but the warmer temperatures and longer growing season of southern areas especially favor this vegetable. Producing a good watermelon is a bit tricky in the short northern season. Gardeners in northern areas should choose early varieties and use transplants. Mulching with black plastic film also promotes earliness by warming the soil beneath the plastic. Floating row covers moderate temperatures around the young plants, providing some frost protection in unseasonable cold spells. Harvesting is particularly critical because watermelons do not continue to ripen after they have been removed from the vine. They should be picked at full maturity. No amount of thumping, tapping, sniffing, or shaking can actually give a clue to ripeness. One main kind of watermelon is a seedless watermelon. These melons are self-sterile hybrids that develop normal-looking fruits but no fully developed seeds. The seeds for growing them are produced by crossing a normal diploid watermelon with one that has been changed genetically into the tetraploid state. The seeds from this cross produce plant, when pollinated by normal plants, produce seedless melons. In seedless watermelons, rudimentary seed structures form but remain small, soft, white, tasteless and undeveloped tiny seed coats that are eaten virtually undetected along with the flesh of the melon. Seed production for these seedless types is an extremely labor intensive process that makes the seeds relatively expensive. Because germination of these types is often less vigorous than normal types, it is recommended that they be started in peat pots or other transplantable containers. Here the germinating conditions can be closely controlled. Once transplanted, cultivation is similar to that for regular watermelons. For pollination necessary to set fruit, normal seed types must be interpolated with seedless melons. The pollinator should be distinct from the seedless cultivar in color, shape or type so that the seedless and seeded melons in the patch can be separated at harvest. Because seedless types do not put energy into seed production, the flesh is often sweeter than normal types and the vines are noticeably more vigorous as the season progresses.

Ralph’s first impression of Piggy Essay
I had just been in a plane crash, a massive plane crash. I was tired and hot, and didn’t know where I was. I stumbled out of the bushes from a swarm of trees, and had observed, that I was lost. I took off my sweater, for the heat was exasperating. I was sweating profusely as my hair stuck to my forehead and shirt clung to my body. I stumbled among the creepers and tripped upon broken trunks. The sun was glaring down at me and suddenly a bird flew upwards and squawked. It was followed by a boys voice shouting, â€Å"Hi! Wait a minute!†It suddenly started raining, and the boy said, â€Å"Wait a minute, I got caught up. I can’t hardly move with all these creeper things.†He then came out from the bushes and I was surprised at how plump his knees were! They were scratched from the thorns, whereas some of them had stuck in his skin. He withdrew the thorns cautiously and turned round. He was shorter than I was, and much fatter. He rambled on about the island, mumbling about grown-ups. I told him about the pilot not being in the passenger seat when he was supposed to be in the cabin in the front. He squinted through to look at the reef. He talked more about other passengers that must have been on the plane. The other boys, that must have left earlier. We talked for a while, talking about the plane, the crash, and the rest. He was different to me. I’m blonde and well built, boxer -like, you could say. He was just fat and wore glasses! He seemed quite common as well, had quite a cockney accent to his voice. He eventually asked me my name. I replied, â€Å"Ralph†. I didn’t ask his back, but he carried on the conversation and if I had. He started talking about his aunt and his asthma, and wiped the lens of his glasses. He swiped the sweat from his cheeks and pushed his glasses on the crook of his nose. He then got distracted by the fruit and just sat by some foliage. I then walked through to the branches and I suddenly heard some panting behind me. I then climbed over a broken trunk and I was out of the jungle. The ground below was something I had never seen before. The grass was so fine and green, with torn coconut shells and bits of bark scattered around the floor. I looked out to the water and saw a blue so strong with such whiteness flicking against the reef. The view in front of me was breathtaking and indescribable to its incredibility. The most amazing effect of all, was the heat. The heat was so powerful that you could almost see it. I jumped down to the beach where the sand was thick. I took off my clothes and just watched the scenery before me. I threw the sand upon my chest and just was just bedazzled by the water. The other boy came up to me after that. Saying that we should have a meeting with the rest of the boys that must be on the island. He said he didn’t want the rest of the boys calling him what they called him back home. I was curious then. I asked him, â€Å"What was that?†He whispered in my ear, â€Å"They used to call me `Piggy’.†I laughed so much my stomach hurt! I jumped up and started teasing him, â€Å"Piggy! Piggy!†He made me promise to not tell the others though. I started swimming and it felt so refreshing. Piggy watched me as I swam through squinted eyes. Piggy dipped his toe into the water and said, â€Å"It’s hot!†â€Å"What did you expect?†â€Å"I didn’t expect nothing. My auntieâ€â€-†â€Å"Sucks to your auntie!†He was becoming annoying now and i just wanted to swim. I was still taking in all the information about the crash, landing on it and finding Piggy, being all alone with no adults at all. This was going to be fun†¦ He started talking about his asthma too. By then I was quite irritated by him and just shouted, â€Å"Sucks to your ass-mar!†I told him about my father being in the Navy and he stood naked now, cleaning his glasses with a sock. I started to drift away on the water I could sense that Piggy would become reliant on me, as I was the first to know him and for him to know me. He seemed quite sensible, possibly too sensible. Even though he was quite physically unattractive, it seemed he didn’t mind. He was quite sure of himself and had good ideas after that. It was obvious he was going to be teased about his size, and wait until I tell them about his name!

Universal Soldier
As a college student in the early 1960s Buffy Sainte-Marie became known as a writer of protest songs and love songs. But unknown to most of the mainstream public, she was even then spending as much time around the drum at a small Indian reserve in Canada as she was in front of a microphone on the concert stages of the world. Having written â€Å"Universal Soldier†, one of the anthems of the 60s peace movement, she was nonetheless absent from the big mass protest marches, in favor of shedding her light on Indian rights and environmental issues, which she still does today. Analysis of the song Universal Soldier Five foot two and six foot four were the height parameters for soldiers in 1961. Fighting with missiles and with spears symbolize the future and the past, soldiers are soldiers: only the equipment is different. The ages 17 to 31 were age parameters to be a soldier during the 1960s and soldiers have been around for centuries. Soldiers are also religious people and not confined to just one religion and though religion forbids it, he chooses to be a killer. No matter what side he’s on, it’s still absurd. Soldiers are not just from some far away enemy country but from â€Å"our†country too thinking that fighting will end all fighting. Soldiers are on all sides using violence as an act of peace having a responsibility overlooked for humanity. Soldiers learn nothing from history so do not see obvious outcomes of repeating it. We can't blame just the leaders and each individual has a choice. We are all responsible – civilians, voters and soldiers.

Wendys
Wendys WendyWendy's When we think Wendy's, we think of Dave Thomas the founder an older jolly looking man with a big square burger in his hand. Dave Thomas the founder of Wendy's started his square burger empire in 1969 to become the 3rd largest hamburger restaurant franchise. In my analysis of Wendy's, we are going to bring square burgers to the forefront and see why this simple variation in burger shape propelled Wendy's into a burger giant. Dave Thomas started Wendy's in 1969 with his first restaurant opening in Columbus Ohio, and from their started the Wendy's hamburger chain, we all know today. Thomas knew from his experience of owning a Kentucky Fried Chicken, menu variation was a key to success in the fast food business. Thomas developed a limited menu with larger square burgers where its edges protruded over the side of the round bun. This was just one of the distinct menu items Thomas used to distinguish his burgers from burger giant McDonalds. Wendy's also used various condiments, lettuce and tomato at customer disposable and even developed a dairy treat that other fast food restraint could not compete against. All these simple, but distinct differences has propelled Wendy's from a small burger joint with a niche to a competitor against McDonalds and other burger giants. Wendy's has enjoyed enormous growth in the US and Canada and other countries. Know the question is how will Wendy's be able to stay competitive in ever growing state of low margins and where people are starting to eat less red meat? With the domestic market saturated with fast food restaurants and more and more people becoming health consciousness how will Wendy's remain the leader in unique burgers, and keep growing the burger business? These question and others will be explored: What is...

The organizations should devise strategies which can be molded according to the conditions because the economic scenario and the customer demands are varying every instant. The organizations which refuse to change themselves with the changing scenario of globalization and advancement in economy are dying out and many new companies with better strategies and structure are replacing them. In the following pages the below mentioned criteria will be established and the two companies will be analyzed on the basis of these established criteria: 1. Approach to leadership and management 2. Teams and teamworking 3. Organizational Culture 4. Organizational Design and Structure 5. PESTLE Analysis 6. Analysis based on theory x and theory y of human motivation Approach to Leadership and Ma nagement A leader is a person who guides its organization towards the established targets and goals. The job of the leader is to assume the frontline role in an organization and teach the employees and workers, through examples, the path to success. Performance Engineering - Essay Example As the user continues to value the performance of a given project so is the time that the user also needs to concentrate on the risks that might lead to the failure of the set project. In addition, there are quality requirements that the user will have to put into consideration. For instance, scalability and performance are two qualities of service requirements. In addition, manageability as well as security are among other quality of the service requirements. The user needs to put into consideration in order to reduce risks as well boost performance of the system at he same time. Furthermore, the user can employ the mechanism of reactive against reactive mechanism in order to ensure that there is improved performance of any given project at a given time(Rangaswami et al.). In most organizations performance level is not in developers consideration until the point where the customer lounges a complaint against the performance standards of that particularly given project. Meaning, for the production, to meet the client’s expectation. Then it has to be frequently evaluated. On the other hand, there are many problems to consider when it comes to the reactive approach (Woodward M). Performance downfalls enter from time to time just from an early stage of the designs and at the same time the design problems can be hard to fix through more efficient coding. In addition, installing architectural problems thereafter in a given cycle is sometimes hard to make. Furthermore, making it at a later stage is not only difficult and complicated but also very costly to t he user. Performance is a persistent quality of hardware systems; everything has an impact on it, ranging from software itself to the rest of the underlying layers, such as hardware, system, communications network and middleware. The process involves a performance engineering, which incorporates efforts
